Non-Fiction - April's Modeling Experience

This is an email the April sent to me in March of 2000 about her living mannequin and modeling experience. Hopefully it will answer your questons, but, if not, feel free to email her. Enjoy!
Dosman,
Hubby asked me if I would email you about my experience as a live mannequin. I would have to say that it was very unusual. What I remember about the experience is little as far as the emotional area goes. I remember that when I agreed to the situation I really did not understand what they were wanting. I got dressed and my friends and I got up on our platform and the storeowner is the one who positioned us in the way that portrayed the outfit we were wearing. At first you got this unnatural feeling because people were staring at you like you were crazy is some way. As the time elapsed, you begin to go into some sort of deep sleep (everything around you fades into to background as if it were not there). Then just as you get use to this the one person that has the power to break this "deep sleep" comes and the process starts all over again and it gets easier to get into this "deep sleep" the more you do the modeling. It is the same feeling I get modeling for the art department here. The best description I can give you for this deep sleep is that it is the closes you can have to time standing still. It is really hard to describe the emotion part of being a mannequin. I hope this helps in some way. I guess the BEST answer to your question is go and do it yourself for one of the stores around your area.
April
