Leaving the HTML in the quoted string is the easiest way to go.

If you can parse the HTML tag-pairs, then blocking on type is fairly easy; doing individual options could be more involved. Identifying things like scripts and refers should be straightforward since the keywords are very distinct.

I've seen the gray bar stretch too, but it does not worry me so much since the relative position of all the buttons (and their action) is preserved.

Oh, one other new feature that makes sense given a complex (HTML) data stream: Preview. This is something for the future though; IMHO go ahead with the rollout and then add preview if you want later.
