I posted a new photo today that was sent in by FreezeFan6. It's a living mannequin model that he knows. She's done some mall work, and looks very good at it. Her hand poses are perfect, and her staring eyes are exactly right. She's interested in being seen here on the LMC, and sent the one photo as a sampler. If we give her some positive feedback, I'm sure we can get some more. Let's give the lady what she needs to hear, folks.

Wow! Great photo Freezefan 6. Your friend definitely has the hand poses down. Thats one of the biggest details as far as I'm concerned. She has obviously done this before and is very good at it. She's also very attractive which is also a bonus Wink I would love to see more from this lady.

I agree. Roxy is terrific! Do you think that she can do a robot pose? Anyway, Great photo, Freezefan! Smile

my comments will be more of a "simon" from american idol, only because I want her to do her best...
roxy, as a suggestion, close your mouth a bit to avoid showing teeth. most mannequins do not show teeth. the hands are not too bad, just bend the wrists back a bit and tilt the top of the head one way or the other. twist the torso a bit as well to make your waist a bit slimmer.
these are just constructive criticism as I hope some of you will agree.
Let me know.

I think a 'Simon' has a lot to offer, if the model is up to the rather caustic form of these comments. The basic principle to keep in mind is that anything that's *NOT* griped about is superb, so I'm not going to go on (any more) about her expression or hand positions or the fact she has the moxie to objectify and display herself for random passersby; all of these points are amazing and much appreciated. Every rose has its thorns, though, so here are a few things that could be improved so Roxy could be an even better Living Mannequin:

1. Dress - not many mannequins in faded jeans and sweaters. How about a nice miniskirt or pantsuit? She has a nice figure; emphasize that more.

2. Hair - Short hair is easy to take care of and attractive, but most mannequins have more elaborate 'do. Wigs are the easiest way to achieve this and you have a bonus of being able to change her appearance quickly.

3. Makeup - Should be 'flatter' and more defined, with stronger emphasis on the eyes and blusher. Mannequin faces should appear more 'painted on' and theatrical.

4. Lighting - overhead is the way to go here, or at least more contrasty side key and fill. A setting that doesn't look like someone's hallway at home would help here, too.

5. Stance & composition - Show her full figure, including feet. Angle camera up slightly from a low position to make her legs appear longer.
If she's standing on a glass platform or circle base, extra points.

6. Motionlessness - Diffucult to show with still pictures, but a series of frames as the camera position is rotated around her would be very much appreciated. Video would be even better. Combined with....

7. Interaction - Nothing sets off a living mannequin like a normal person either looking at the faux display figure or interacting with her (changing accessories, re-posing etc.)

Reading over these notes, many of them are more for the photographer than for the model, so the same caveats (e.g. "be ye of thick skin") apply.
