Recently, a living mannequin performing group decided to play around with some make up, to see if they could come up with something that would look like a mannequin, but at the same time be safe for the model involved. After playing around with various levels of foundations, and trying to cancel the models natural skin tones they came up with something new.
"We were trying for a plastic face. So we boiled a can of water, and melted gelatine in a cup, then put it on her face. It was looking really plastic, for the first 10 minutes but then started to shrink"
Now, I don't know about anyone else, but this actually sounds like a cool idea. I'm not sure I've read to many stories where they tried to hold the face with wax. I'd never try it in real life, but here is someone who did. It doesn't sound like the results where very successful though.
"Her face was ok at first. It looked like plastic and she could still move it and talk, but the more it shrinked, the less motive her face was getting"
Can you believe it? A real live LM suddenly faced with her worst fear? Becoming stiff and immobile. What a frightening thought.
"The model was was scared & crying. And the look was lost, her face started to dry & wrinkle like a baked potato. Not very sexy. We had to peel it off fast. Anyway, it was unusable as makeup, so we cleaned her. The only thing she had to say after was 'oohh'."
So, here it is. A good reason why most of the ideas that come up in fiction have to stay there. Stay tuned for more articles on the topic of bringing immobilization into the real world.
Thanks to my LM friends who contributed this story.
